🎃 How to Keep Your Dog Safe and Happy This Halloween

Halloween is a fun night for families — but for many dogs, it can be full of strange sounds, spooky costumes, and tempting treats that aren’t always safe! 👻🐾

At Marley’s Pals, we love seeing your pups join in the fun, but we also know how easily things can get overwhelming for our four-legged friends. Here are our top tips to make sure your dog enjoys a safe and stress-free Howl-o-ween!

🍫 1. Keep Sweets and Chocolate Out of Reach

Those bowls of Halloween treats are hard to resist — for humans and dogs! Unfortunately, chocolate and sweets (especially those containing xylitol) can be toxic for dogs.

👉 Store them up high or in a closed cupboard, and remind trick-or-treaters not to share!

🚪 2. Give Nervous Dogs a Quiet Space

The doorbell ringing, voices shouting “trick or treat!”, and people in strange outfits can be unsettling.

Set your dog up somewhere quiet and comfortable — their crate, a back room, or a snug spot with their bed and favourite blanket.

A stuffed Kong or calming music can help too.

👗 3. Dress-Up Should Be Fun, Not Frightening

Dog costumes can be adorable, but comfort always comes first. Make sure your dog can move freely, breathe easily, and see properly.

If they seem uncomfortable or unsure, skip the costume and pop on a festive bandana instead. 🎃

🌙 4. Watch Out on Walks

If you’re out walking during trick-or-treat time, use a lead — even the calmest dogs can get spooked by flashing lights or costumes.

Glow collars or reflective leads are great for visibility in the dark!

🐶 5. Keep an Eye on Decorations

Some dogs can’t resist investigating new things! Keep candles, fake cobwebs, and battery-powered lights safely out of reach to avoid any accidents.
